Rock Idols: Where They Are Today Vol. 3: BLUEGOATS

In the 2010s, BiS introduced rock elements into Japan’s underground idol scene, while BiSH took this further by refining it with a broader popular appeal. Now, a wave of rock idols heavily influenced by BiS and BiSH signals the emergence of a new scene. In this series, we highlight the rock idols to watch in 2025.
Vol.3 : BLUEGOATS

BLUEGOATS
The third installment of this series features BLUEGOATS, a four-member idol group formed in November 2021. Affectionately known as “Aoyagi,” the group consists of Honma Kaina, Dynamite Marin, Chanchi, and Sonsona. Their concept is “You and I, together as BLUEGOATS,” and they are actively pursuing their goal of filling Yokohama Arena to capacity. Their fans are known as “NOMADS.”
Their music is largely centered around “youth punk,” a subgenre of punk rock that revolves around themes of youth. This style gained popularity in Japan’s indie scene in the early 2000s.
BLUEGOATS has received songs from notable artists such as Eijun Suganami of THE BACK HORN and Keita Tanaka, formerly of SCRAMBLES, who has also provided songs for BiSH. The members themselves handle the lyrics and choreography, further deepening the emotional impact of their music.
Among their works, “Kaisan” (meaning “Disbandment”), composed and arranged by Eijun Suganami with lyrics by Honma Kaina, stands out. Despite its straightforward title, the song features poetic lyrics that resonate deeply with listeners. Its emotional guitar-driven sound enhances its impact, while the music video—featuring scenes of the members singing amidst cherry blossoms and rain—visually encapsulates the essence of youth.
One aspect that sets BLUEGOATS apart from other idol groups is their strong presence on social media, particularly YouTube. While many idols utilize social media, their approach is notably bold. One controversial project involved a live-streamed event where they collected approximately 230,000 yen in Super Chats from fans and bet it on a horse race, watching the event together with their audience.
Additionally, member Dynamite Marin garnered significant attention by posting a self-drawn manga on social media, depicting her take on what an idol “should be.”
